Capacity Enhancement Training

Capacity Enhancement Training

Background

Community World Service Asia offers a range of learning and skill enhancement opportunities to support the development of non-governmental, civil society, and community-based organizations in Pakistan.

The capacity enhancement initiative strengthens the capacity of individuals, civil society organizations, academia, government bodies and I/NGOs to assist and advocate for the communities with which they work.

Our goal is to enable organizations working in the humanitarian and development sector to maximize their impact, fulfill their potential, and best serve communities.

Community World Service Asia is providing capacity enhancement services since 1999 and has completed six phases very successfully. In each phase the training topics cover a wide range of needs further contextualize by involving participating organizations and their staff.

Under our Capacity Enhancement Program, we are offering workshops to both local and national level organizations. Under CEP, we employ multiple approaches to capacity enhancement to suit the varying needs of organizations with different objectives, priorities, and resources. What we offer is more than capacity building workshops; we provide customized capacity enrichment plans which consist of a range of workshops, refreshers, technical support exercises, and follow-up activities.

Resilience and Risk Reduction Training

Resilience and risk reduction is a very pertinent issue for the sustainability of development interventions and for creating more resilient communities from shocks and stresses related to disasters or climate change, which if not mitigated with adequate measures push communities into further poverty. In a series of four day trainings, participants will learn about the concept of DRR, the DRR cycle, climate change impact, hazards and vulnerability, capacity assessment, contingency planning and the use of Quality and Accountability Standards (Sphere and CHS) in Humanitarian Response.

Leadership Development for Managers

Leadership development training will provide relevant support to existing and future leaders. The training will also benefit from the peer support and collaboration amongst participants and partners. Participants will learn how to strengthen leadership and management skills by developing clarity on the role of a manager, identifying characteristics of  a good manager and leader, developing particular skills on leadership, trust building and providing effective coaching techniques and creating second line leadership in participants’ respective institutions/ organizations.

Advocacy for Change

This course will provide an introduction to Advocacy as a process for change, its conceptual underpinnings, and designing an advocacy campaign to practice skills learned during the course.

The Participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of advocacy and lobbying as a process for sustainable change. Each participating NGO/CBO will develop and facilitate advocacy campaigns by effective use of various advocacy tools, analyzing risks and sensitivities while designing advocacy campaigns.  With the support and technical assistance provided by us, they will implement relevant and effective advocacy campaigns in their respective communities.

Competency Based HR Practices - Using Core Competency Framework

Competent and well-managed staffs are at the heart of an accountable and effective organization, therefore they need to be equipped with the right skills and attitudes. Through this training, participants will learn the Competency Framework which will help human resources professionals and managers to have the skills and tools to apply CHCF in order to improve the overall quality of their program with people affected by crisis and disaster. Learning organizations will be provided with tools and knowledge to be able to adopt the CHCF in the most appropriate way to suit their specific processes. Competency-based approaches to people management and career development will be promoted.

Organization Management Training

Emerging or small level organizations often have informal structures due to lack of resources because of which certain staff members end up performing multiple functions. It is important that these team members are well versed in basic functions of human resource, operations and finance to bring more efficiency in the organization. The participating organizations will enhance their capacities on understanding and developing skills on organizational management and will learn techniques of evaluating existing organizational practices in order to improve overall management and operational structures.

Essentials of Social Mobilization

Local organizations apply social mobilization to raise awareness, motivate people to demand change or push for development and most importantly to engage communities to take ownership of project interventions. This training will offer participants a thorough understanding on social mobilization as a participatory approach. The key role of a social mobilizer will be defined and how essential his/her role is in  strengthening community mobilization. The training content will cover basic communication skills and ethics of social mobilization, tools for successful community mobilization, ways of managing power dynamics and conflict management, keeping the community engaged and united through project cycles and identifying strategies to promote women inclusion in mobilization.

Building Block of Theory of Change

National organizations have a keen interest in learning and applying Theory of Change (TOC) in their intervention to facilitate better planning and to ensure that activities are linked to how change actually happens. Understanding TOC leads to better evaluation, as measuring progress towards the achievement of longer-term goals that goes beyond the identification of program outputs becomes possible. A four-day training will be offered to national level organizations to strengthen their planning, monitoring and evaluation systems based on Theory of Change.

Interactive Theater for Advocacy

Through using Interactive Theatre, marginalized groups or those advocating for them, can tell their own stories, in their own words, to people, including power holders. Through this approach, marginalised people gain a voice and can talk openly about their issues and offer solutions as well. They can mobilize their communities, get opinions and recommend community level solutions. This training course will help strengthen the capacity of local NGOs and CBOs to use interactive theatre as a tool to advocate on issues at the grass root level and also complementing any ongoing advocacy campaigns.

This workshop on interactive theatre will enable local organizations to establish new theatre groups or strengthen existing ones by exploring fundamentals of interactive theatre, effective communication skills, art of creating stories, improvisation with groups (acting, script writing, production), inculcating issue-based content to develop and delivering interactive theatre performance in public setting.
