How will the training be useful?
Local organizations work with grass root communities on a regular basis. These organizations use social mobilization to raise awareness, motivate people to bring change and development or to organize communities to take ownership of project interventions meant to assist them. Social mobilization also strengthens the participation of local communities in decision-making, local governance and increases their access to socio-economic services. Also used as a tool in advocacy campaigning, social mobilization promotes engagement of affected communities in raising awareness or working towards changing public opinion on prevailing issues.
Key skills and relevantly trained staff is key to effective social mobilization. As the birth step towards community interaction, these skills play a significant role in implementation of all cycles of humanitarian and development interventions.
This training aims to enhance participants’ knowledge on:
- Understanding social mobilization as an approach, its key elements and the true role of a social mobilizer
- Basic communication skills, ethics and tools for successful community mobilization
- Managing community expectations and keeping community intact throughout the project life cycle
- Power dynamics and conflict management
- Strategies to promote women inclusion in social mobilization process
We will support you even after the training! Here’s how:
After six months of this training, a free of cost, two-day, training refresher will be conducted for all participants. The participants will receive follow up support in implementation of learnings of this training in their social mobilization activities. Each participant will get an opportunity to share their progress, discuss challenges and receive technical support to further improve their mobilization strategy.
Who is it for?
- Middle to senior level Project or Program Managers, Coordinators, community mobilizers of local NGOs and CBOs working in the humanitarian and development sector
- All applicants must have interest and some prior experience in social mobilization, community organization and conflict management
Meet the Trainer:
Syed Moazzam Ali has extensive experience of conducting trainings with Civil Society Organizations, government institutions, communities and educational institutions across Asia. He has been associated with leading rights-based organizations such as Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and Amnesty International. He has been associated with Community World Service Asia since 2003 delivering diversified trainings on Social Development Programs, Youth Empowerment Programs, Mass Awareness and Community Awareness on HIV & AIDS, Local Capacities for Peace (Do No Harm), Political Education Program, Peace Education Program, Girls Education Program in Afghanistan and trainings on Sphere Minimum Standards
