At least seventy-seven people including children and women were killed and several injured when flash floods caused by the continuous rains created havoc in different areas of Afghanistan.
The affected areas include various parts of eastern Nuristan, Khost, Laghman, Nangarhar, and Kabul provinces. The worst-hit area is the Sorubi District, located in Kabul Province where at least 70 people died, several injuries were reported, and dozens of houses were destroyed
Fast-moving waters washed away small villages in these areas. The water destroyed a hospital and its ambulance, many shops and vehicles, and resulted in the loss of hundreds of cattle.
The death toll is expected to rise as the search for the missing or displaced people is still underway.
CWS-P/A is currently monitoring the situation and is ready to initiate its relief activities for the affected communities. CWS-P/A’s emergency response team is on standby in case the need arises to respond.
