On August 10, 2013, heavy rains and flash floods devastated parts of Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, and Pakitika provinces in Afghanistan. Shaker Dara District of Kabul Province is the worst affected area. Based on the initial information received from the field and Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), at least 21 people including children and women died, 12 people were injured, 8 people are missing, and residential houses, access roads, some bridges, agriculture land, and orchards were destroyed. ANDMA is in process of assessing the losses from the affected areas.
According to ANDMA, no emergency response has been provided to the affected people except rescue efforts by the Afghan National Police in some flood-affected areas.
CWS-P/A is currently monitoring the situation and is in close contact with ANDMA and local partners. CWS-P/A’s emergency response team is on standby in case the need arises to respond.
